Homeopathy Used in Cuba
With Stunning Result
An unprecedented study involving 2.4 million people was recently done in Cuba using homeopathic prophylaxis to prevent an outbreak of leptospirosis after tropical flooding. Only 10 cases were reported after use of the homeopathic nosode when several thousand would normally be expected. In addition to the resoundingly effective result, the cost savings were also remarkable--the total cost of the entire treatment program was $200,000 USD . Homeopathy Shown as Effective as Prozac For Treatment of Depression
Research at the Federal University of Sao Paolo, Brazil, recently demonstrated the effectiveness of individualized homeopathic treatment was equivalent to fluoxetine (Prozac) for treatment of depression. Patients treated with Prozac reported adverse side effects with the need for more treatment interruption than those in the homeopathy group. See article.
Study Shows Homeopathy Effective For Treatment of Chronic Lower Back PainA multi-center study shows the effect of individualized homeopathic treatment on patients suffering from chronic lower back pain. The severity of complaints in patients treated homeopathically showed marked and sustained improvements. The use of conventional health care services decreased markedly and the number of patients using low back pain related drugs decreased by half. See article
Switzerland Embeds Homeopathy in Constitution
In May 2009, the Swiss people voted in favor of a constitutional article including complementary medical therapies such as homeopathy into the public health service. According to this new legislation, Parliament and the authorities will be required to admit doctors of alternative medical therapies such as homeopathy, herbal medicine, and traditional Chinese medicine into the obligatory public insurance program. 67% of Swiss voters supported the new constitutional article.

EFT Considered by Congress For Treatment of War Veterans w/PTSD
Last year, the chairperson of the Armed Services Committee, Carl Levin, after reviewing several studies on EFT, wrote to a member of President Obama's cabinet, Carl Shinseki, recommending a close look at EFT meridian therapy for treatment of PTSD in veterans. Three representatives have also written to Shinseki, as well as the heads of mental health services, advocating concrete steps for adopting EFT for the treatment of veterans.

Homeopathy Not Larger Than in Conventional

Many critics of homeopathy argue that it's effects is mainly that of a super placebo, any improvement in the patient's condition simply being due to the empa- thetic listening of the homeopathic practitioner to the patients complaints. A German research team re- cently performed a systematic study of double blind placebo controlled clinical trials on classical homeopathy. Each trial was matched to three double blind clinical trials from conventional medicine (mainly pharmacological interventions involving the same diagnosis). The results showed that in 13 matched sets the placebo effect in the homeopathic sample was larger, and in 12 it was lower. The authors conclude that placebo effects in placebo controlled clinical trials in homeopathy do not appear to be larger than placebo effects in conventional medicine.
